University Funding Options

This list gives you a helpful overview of available funding options, but there may be even more opportunities out there. We encourage you to explore other resources and do some research to find the best funding options for your unique situation.

Scholarships

Federal & State Aid

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • When you complete the FAFSA, your eligibility for federal and state grants—such as the Pell Grant, TEXAS Grant, TPEG, & Red Raider Guarantee—will be assessed. The results will be sent to Texas Tech, and we will notify you of any offers you qualify for.
  • Consider federal student loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) available on your Raiderlink account.
  • Parents of dependent undergraduate students can also apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan, which opens on May 1 for the upcoming academic year.

Private Education Loans

  • Research private lenders.
  • Compare interest rates, repayment terms, and fees.
  • If needed, consider a co-signer with an established credit history for better rates.
  • Explore state-sponsored loan programs such as the College Access Loan or FORWARD

Student Business Services Payment Plans

  • Inquire about tuition installment plans through Student Business Services.
  • Understand fees and due dates for installment payments

Work Options

Savings & Alternative Resources

  • Consider using funds from a 529 College Savings Plan. Submit to Student Business Services.
  • If applicable, explore Foster and Adoption  Exemptions
  • Review other possible waivers or exemptions.
  • Consider tapping into your personal savings to help cover college expenses.
  • Ask family for financial assistance. 
  • Visit Red to Black for guidance on budgeting and how to stretch your money.
  • Apply for Military Benefits if applicable.
