Office of the Provost

Amiee Dixon assumed the role of Commencement Coordinator in 2016. Since then, she has overhauled Texas Tech University's Commencement ceremonies in ways that have substantially benefited the institution, our graduates, and their family and friends. Amiee worked to retain valued Texas Tech Commencement traditions like individual graduate recognition, by implementing the use of a software system that has enabled us to reduce total ceremony time, thus allowing us to continue to recognize each graduate, something no other public school in the Big 12 does. She also standardized parts of Commencement preparations like faculty training, administrator remarks, and budgeting, which has significantly improved the quality of the experiences for faculty members, administrators, Regents, and speakers participating in the ceremonies. Further, she made massive changes to the ways in which graduating students are informed and guided prior to and during their individual ceremonies, resulting in major improvements to the student experience – when we have more than 7,000 students participating in Commencement ceremonies annually, this becomes a huge accomplishment. It should be noted that Texas Tech's Commencement ceremonies are extremely high-profile events; she handles the pressure of our ceremonies with grace, determination, and assurance. She is a true asset to our institution.
