Trevor Jones, selected as fall 2025 banner bearer, answers Q&A
Q: What is your major?
A: Nutrition with a concentration in pre-professional health.
Q: What is your hometown?
A: McKinney, Texas
Q: Why did you choose your major?
A: I chose this major because it provided a solid background for the health-related
graduate programs I planned to pursue. It combines biology, chemistry, physiology,
and nutrition, giving me a well-rounded foundation. I also believe that understanding
nutrition will complement my clinical training. It will help me advise patients more
effectively and support my work alongside registered dietitians. This major has also
taught me how to apply evidence-based guidelines in practice and has shown me the
connection between diet and various chronic and acute diseases.
Q: What does it feel like to be selected as the banner bearer for the College of Health
& Human Sciences?
A: Beyond the excitement of being selected, Im grateful for the people who supported
me along the way. The banner is a physical reminder that this journey was shared with
others who believed in me. I know there are many deserving students graduating alongside
me, so Im humbled to serve as an example of what students in the College of Health
& Human Sciences can achieve. It also marks both an ending and a beginning as I move
into my professional career. I hope to continue growing in leadership, character,
and dedication to my field.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the College of Health & Human Sciences?
A: One of the most meaningful aspects of the College of Health and Human Sciences
is the sense of community. The faculty truly want you to succeed and will help you
reach your goals, no matter your area of interest. Ive also appreciated the real-world
learning experiences. Many faculty in the nutrition program are practicing registered
dietitians, so we learn through case studies that help us connect concepts to real-life
situations and strengthen our critical-thinking skills. There have also been many
opportunities for leadership and growth, especially in research. I discovered my passion
for oncology through seminars hosted by the college.
Q: What are your career plans or next steps?
A: I will be pursuing an M.D./Ph.D. program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
I plan to continue my research in developing immunotherapies for breast and intestinal
cancers, with the goal of becoming a pediatric hematologist/oncologist through the
fellowship program at Covenant.
