Brazilian School Administrators Visit Campus in May

By Leslie Cranford, Lead Storyteller

Texas Tech K-12 aims to expand access to international students desiring to further their education by taking American secondary curriculum. This, in turn, affords them better opportunities to attend U.S. colleges. As part of this commitment, representatives from Liberty Education—Texas Tech K-12’s longtime educational partner—and guests from Rede Notre Dame and other schools in Brazil visited the Texas Tech University campus in May to explore partnership possibilities.

During the visit, three Notre Dame faculty and staff shared the educational trajectory of the Rede Notre Dame Network and discussed strategies to strengthen the program’s internationalization of teaching, implemented by partnering with Texas Tech K-12 in 2024.

Staff from both Texas Tech K-12 and the university – including the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering and the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources – provided a variety of information to the participants.

Gabriela Barros, international education manager for Liberty Education, expressed gratitude for the May visit and stressed its importance in bolstering international partnerships.

“This trip helps the schools to better understand Texas Tech K-12 programs, methodologies and benefits for Brazilian students, allowing the best education in their country,” Barros said. “Also, there was a fruitful opportunity for educators to discuss the best practices to develop students' skills and abilities, preparing them for their future and expanding their access to U.S. universities.”

To that end, the educators delved into Texas Tech’s admissions process and opportunities for courses in particular areas of interest. Attendees also took part in discussions on adopted pedagogical practices and educational policies, especially those applied in their own international programs.
