Week 1: Thinking as I Read and Write

  Introduction: Week 1

  This year in 2nd grade, we’ll be talking about what it means to be a good citizen and how even the smallest things we can do make a difference. During discussions, remember to follow rules for being a good participant.

  During this week, you will begin thinking about what you are reading. By determining the central idea and asking questions while you read, you will develop comprehension skills that will help you to understand what you read. In writing, you will be introduced to the writing process and become familiar with the structure of a personal narrative.

  Materials Needed

  • HMH e-book
  • Pencil
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • spiral notebook or lined paper and ring binder for a Writer’s Notebook

  After you have completed all the activities for Week 1, return to the Module 1 folder to begin Week 2.
