To prepare for the lesson:

Now, go through the daily teaching slides for Day 2 with your student.

SLIDE ACTIVITIES

  • Part 1: On slide 4, go through the High-Frequency Words that were introduced yesterday. Using the Spelling Word cards the student cut out and saved from the Week 2 Word List on Day 1, play Wordhead with your student.

  • Part 2: For Phonological Awareness, slides 5-8, let’s play with the sounds in words!

  • Part 3: In Phonics, slides 10-12, review vowels o, u, and e. Then, on slides 13-15, review several consonants and their sounds. For additional help, search for Sound-Spelling cards in your online textbook under Learning Cards/Sound-Spelling Cards. Use an Articulation Video, in your online textbook under Multimedia, to show children how to articulate the sounds.

    • Slide 13 Sound-Spelling cards:
    • Slide 14 Sound-Spelling cards:
    • Slide 15 Sound-Spelling cards:
  • Continue Phonics by reviewing the CVC pattern and blending letter sounds to make words (slides 16-37).

  • Build and read words on slide 38. You may want to distribute one or two copies of Letter Cards 2x2 to have children cut out the letter cards and build the words.

  • On slide 39, sort words into word families.

  • Finally, on slide 40, practice reading some longer words, using the CVC pattern to help.
