Grammar: Word Order in Sentences
Grammar: Word Order in Sentences
A sentence will not make sense if the predicate comes before the subject. The order that words come in a sentence is very important.
To identify whether a complete simple sentence uses the correct word order, ask:
- Is the first part of the sentence the subject, or naming part?
Let’s look at the Word Order in Sentences graphic.
- The first part of the sentence, eats snacks, is the predicate.
- The first part should be the subject, my dog.
The correct order of the sentence should be:
- My dog eats snacks.
