Simple Sentences

Remember, a complete simple sentence has a subject and a predicate.

If a sentence is incomplete, you can make it complete by adding either a subject or a predicate.

Examples

This has a subject, but is missing a predicate. We add a predicate.

  • The leaves.
  • The leaves fell off the trees.

  • Walks
  • The horse walks.

You can ask questions to help identify if the group of words is a subject or predicate, such as:

  • Is this part of the sentence the naming part or the action part?
  • Does this part tell what the sentence is about or what someone or something does?
