Reading: Central Idea
When you read a text or watch a video, you should think about what it is mostly about. Then you will understand the important ideas that the author wants to share.
Like in a text, a video has a central idea, a topic, and supporting evidence. A topic is what the video is mostly about, and the central idea is the most important idea.
Remember that details, facts, and examples in the text or video are supporting evidence and that you use these clues to figure out the central idea.
Prepare to listen to Get Involved: Be Awesome! (in your online textbook, click Module 1, then click the Contents menu at the top left of your browser, and click the book title). Before you begin, read “Prepare to View” to learn about the genre: videos. Think about what the message will be.
To practice identifying the topic and describing the central idea when you watch Get Involved: Be Awesome!, you may discuss the questions below with someone.
