Grammar: Using Different Kinds of Sentences

Grammar card titled Connect to Writing: Using Different Kinds of Sentences. Using different kinds of sentences makes your writing more interesting to read. You can change one kind of sentence to another by moving or adding words. Examples: Command: Hit a home run. Statement: The batter hit a home run. Question: Did the batter hit a home run? Exclamation: Wow, the batter hit a home run!

Using different kinds of sentences makes your writing more interesting. Words can be rearranged, added, or changed to make a different kind of sentence.

For example, the statement I like soccer can be changed to I love soccer! to make it an exclamation.

Let’s review the different types of sentences below:

  1. Soccer is fun. (Statement)
  2. Do you play soccer? (Question)
  3. Kick the ball. (Command)
  4. That was a great game! (Exclamation)
