Agricultural econometrics expert joins CASNR
Eric Belasco joined Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics this semester as an assistant professor.
A native of San Diego, he will be working at Tech's Agricultural Science Building on the main campus in Lubbock where he will be developing economic models related to risk and uncertainty in the production of agricultural crops and international trade.
Risk Models. "The models focus on how producers make decisions with risk, such as insuring themselves or covering risk against negative losses," he said. "Some of the models that I have built in the past have been used by government agencies, financial institutions and commodity groups. Individual producers find this kind of information useful, as well."
His teaching activities will include graduate courses in econometrics, the study of the statistical tools that are used in economics. Econometrics combines economic theory with statistics to analyze and test economic relationships.
Trade Analyst. Belasco previously served as an international trade analyst with DHL, a global market firm in international express, overland transport and air freight. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Mary's College of California. His master's degree and doctorate in economics are from North Carolina State University.
