National FFA Secretary Becky Sullivan was welcomed on the Texas Tech University campus this spring, as part of a national tour of top-flight agricultural programs.
The Kansas native, one of the six officers in the National FFA Organization, led a Feb. 18 workshop highlighting the principles of character needed to become a leader at Lubbock-Cooper High School. In addition, she toured the Tech campus, meeting faculty and staff from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, as well as members of the Texas Tech Collegiate FFA."I liked the fact that students in this area got to meet a national officer," said Jade Keith, a Texas Tech freshman majoring in agricultural education from Alpine and a Texas State FFA officer. "Students in this part of Texas don't usually get this opportunity." The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 500,823 student members.
Collegiate 4-H. Separately, the Texas Tech Collegiate 4-H Club hosted its first ever "Game Day with the Lady Raiders" in January for some 30 4-H members and their parents and agents from the surrounding area. The program included a hamburger luncheon and a presentation by Agri-Techsans members, who reviewed CASNR's degree programs.
The group then met and took pictures with Texas Tech's mascot, Raider Red. They toured the Tech campus before watching the Lady Raiders defeat Colorado State at the United Spirit Arena. The event was sponsored by Betenbough Homes, Hugo Reed and Associates, and Red and Black, a local college bookstore.
