Texas Tech honors outstanding CASNR faculty at convocation
Four faculty members from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources received awards April 22 for their quality teaching and research during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation.
Receiving a President's Academic Achievement Award, which go to faculty members who have demonstrated distinction in teaching, research and service, was Mindy Brashears, associate professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences and director of Tech's International Center for Food Industry Excellence.
Discovery. "Great universities are about discovery, about invention, about research and scholarship and then turning what we learn into classroom presentations for the learning of our students," said Texas Tech President Jon Whitmore.
Phillip Johnson, professor and director of the Thornton Agricultural Finance Institute, was awarded a President's Excellence in Teaching Award, while a Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award went Todd Brashears, an assistant professor with the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications.
Research. Warren Ballard, a professor in the Department of Natural Resources Management, received a Outstanding Research Award. Ballard was also recognized as one the university's newest Paul Whitfield Horn Professors.
Separately, certificates also were presented to newly retired faculty members who have been given emeritus status. Twenty-four professors, inlcuding Ronald Sosebee from the Department of Natural Resource Manangement, were given emeritus status for their service to the university. Professors earn the emeritus designation, an honorary title, through length of service, faithful service or through distinctive service.
