Top students, faculty, staff featured at CASNR honors banquet
Outstanding students from Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored at an April 25 ceremony during the annual CASNR Honors Banquet at the Merket Alumni Center.
Sponsored by the Ag Council, the annual event featured students receiving a variety of honors, including Aggie of the Month, outstanding students and highest academic achievement student.
"Aggie of the Month" recipients were:" Rebecca Borchardt; September" Jim Bob Steen; October" Lee Robinson; November" Dusty Winkler; December" Michael Munson; January" Amy Schwertner; February" Curry Murphy; March" Emma Matkin; April
Recipients of the outstanding student awards were:" Ginamarie Munch, agricultural and applied economics" Whitney Siegfried, agricultural education and communications" Amber Harris, animal and food sciences" Colleen Price, landscape architecture" Patience Knight, natural resources management" John Gottula, plant and soil science.
Outstanding students in each discipline were:" GinaMarie Munch, agricultural and applied economics" Andrew Arnold, agribusiness" Whitney Siegfried, agricultural communications" Jim Bob Steen, interdisciplinary agriculture" Amber Harris, animal science" Sarah Dierschke, food science" Colleen Price, landscape architecture" Kaela Champlin, environmental conservation of natural resources/ range management" Patience Knight, wildlife and fisheries management" Seth Sowder, agronomy" John Gottula, horticulture" Sheyenne Scott, plant biotechnology
Students with the highest academic achievement in their respective departments were:" Jordan Strebeck, agricultural and applied economics" Whitney Siegfried, agricultural education and communications" Amber Harris, Travis O'Quinn and Sam Overly, animal and food sciences" Danielle Mills, landscape architecture" Ashley Damico, natural resources management" Seth Sowder, plant and soil science.
Separately, new Ag Council leaders for the 20087-2009 were recognized. They were Dee Jay Wilde, president; Riley Branch, vice president; Ashley Larkin, secretary; Lee Robinson, treasurer; and Jazsmine Duncan, scribe. Student government senators Luke Davis, Jenna Jones, Brad Bellah and Dee Jay Wilde were also recognized.
Meanwhile, outstanding professor awards went to Cynthia McKenney for Fall 2007 and Jean Kavanagh for Spring 2008. Outstanding staff members were Scott Cooksey for Fall 2007 and Kayla Rathmann for Spring 2008.
Ag Council members include the Ag Communicators of Tomorrow, the Agronomy Club; Alpha Gamma Rho; American Society of Landscape Architecture; Beef Cattle Show Team; Block and Bridle; Collegiate FFA; Collegiate 4-H; Collegiate Horseman Association; Entomology Club; Equestrian Team; Farm House Fraternity; Food Technology; Freshman Ag Council; Horticulture Society; Meat Sciences Association; Pre-Vet Society; Range, Wildlife and Fisheries Club; Rodeo Association; and the Sigma Alpha Sorority.
