CASNR 50+ Class Reunion held at Merket Center
Some 80 alumni of Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were on hand May 1 for a special gathering of the"50+ Class Reunion" at the university's Merket Alumni Center. The luncheon was held in conjunction with the Texas Tech Alumni Association's 50th Class Reunion activities.
CASNR officials said participants enjoyed coming together at the end of the spring semester and reminiscing with friends and classmates. Among the speakers at the event were John Burns, the newly named dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Burns, himself a former Texas Tech provost came out of retirement in August to serve as interim dean and now has committed to a minimum three years in the position opened by the retirement of Marvin Cepica.
Burns has pointed to the college's polite students and hardworking faculty, who carry heavy class loads while also advising students and claiming significant research funding, as examples of what brought him to the college.
Other speakers at the class reunion event were Jane Piercy, CASNR's Director of Development and External Relations, and Jeremy Brown, CASNR new Development Officer. Piercy joined the staff in January after serving as a development officer with Texas Tech University Libraries.
Brown, a longtime Texas Tech student government leader, recently joined CASNR in a newly created position as development officer in the college's development and external relations office. His focus will be on building relationships with alumni and donors of the college, as well as raising funds and promoting CASNR's departments and the university in general.
