Reception, dinner set for ag teachers meeting in Corpus Christi
Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources will hold a reception and dinner July 29 for its alumni who are attending this year's annual meeting of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas in Corpus Christi.
Sponsored by CASNR's Development and Alumni Relations office, the program begins at 6 p.m. aboard the USS LEXINGTON Museum. The USS LEXINGTON is a World War II-vintage aircraft carrier.
Aircraft Carrier. Commissioned in 1943, it served the United States longer and set more records than any other carrier in the history of naval aviation. In 1991, the Lexington arrived at Naval Station Ingleside and became a permanent Texas resident.
The celebrated ship was opened to the public in 1992. It was the first U.S. navel carrier to have women stationed aboard as crew members, the first foreign carrier to enter Tokyo Bay, and the first carrier to deploy air-to-surface missiles aboard a carrier.
Agriculture Education. The Austin-based Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas is a professional organization for agriculture science teachers and supporters of agriculture education.
One of its goals is to inform agriculture teachers about the latest agricultural education practices, encourage higher standards of teaching agriculture and provide agriculture education a unified voice in the state legislature.
