Water, AgriScience Fair set for July 14 at Tech's Merket Center
The latest crop and livestock research, along with potential cutting-edge efforts to conserve water, will highlight a July 14 'Water and the AgriScience Fair' at Texas Tech University's Merket Alumni Center.
The program, which features teacher and student workshops, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is sponsored through a USDA Ogallala Aquifer Project Grant.
The teacher workshop includes a review of current crop and livestock research. Officials said participants will receive teaching materials that will allow them to integrate the research into their local program.
A discussion on potential student research projects for FFA Agriscience Fair will be held. In addition, bus transportation will provided to Texas Tech's research farm in New Deal.
Separately, the student workshop portion of the program will focus on the latest water-related research, as well as how water research projects could be done under each of FFA's five agriscience areas. These areas include:" Biochemistry/ Microbiology/Food Science" Environmental Sciences" Zoology (Animal Science)" Botany (Plant/Soil Science)" Engineering (Mechanical/Ag. Engineering Science)
According to officials, student participants will also gain personal insight to campus life at Texas Tech University, along with student research efforts.
