Dabbert tapped as new NRM associate chairperson
An expert on the environmental factors influencing the population dynamics of wildlife has been selected as the new associate chairperson in Tech University's Department of Natural Resources Management, officials announced today (July 14).
Brad Dabbert, an associate professor, will be working with the department's new chairman, Philip Gipson, on a variety of issues, including departmental budget planning and management, graduate and undergraduate curricula and financial aid, student recruitment, and administrative reporting.
Environmental Variables. Dabbert joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1996 and currently focuses his research interests on exploring potential environmental variables that could modulate avian population size. "I feel strongly about teaching undergraduate and graduate students through active participation in research," he said.
A native of Ardmore, Okla., Dabbert earned a bachelor's degree in wildlife ecology management from Oklahoma State University-Stillwater, and a master's degree from University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. He received his doctorate in from Oklahoma State University-Stillwater. He's a member of The Wildlife Society and Wildlife Disease Association.
Advisory Board. Separately, Warren Ballard, the former associate chairperson, will become a member of department's faculty advisory board. Members of the faculty advisory board are Ballard, Ernest Fish, Reynaldo Patino and David Wester.
"We'll seek the counsel of our faculty advisory board when decisions need to be made quickly that are likely to impact our department," said Gipson, who stepped into his new leadership post June 1 following his tenure as Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit Leader.
"The group will serve as a sounding board for ideas to deal with emerging issues and help identify matters that should be considered by the entire faculty for resolution," he said. "They'll play an important role in providing professional leadership for our department."
