Meyers joins Agricultural Education & Communications
Courtney Meyers has been named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, according to officials with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. She began her teaching and research duties on Aug. 1.
"Courtney brings a cutting-edge background in agricultural communications to the department, especially in Web-related programs," said Steve Fraze, chairman of Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. "We're pleased to have her join the faculty."
Research Focus. Meyers's research focus will be on Web and print material evaluation, media coverage of agricultural issues, public awareness of agricultural topics, and dissemination of agricultural science information.
In the past she has centered her research efforts on the evaluation of an integrated marketing communications Web site for Extension, a framing analysis of citrus canker coverage in Florida newspapers, and a focus group study evaluating genetically modified food labels.
Before joining Texas Tech, Meyers was a co-instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Florida-Gainesville and earlier a teaching assistant at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. She has worked as a graduate research assistant and focus group moderator.
Meyers has extensive hands-on experience in Web design and photo editing, as well as research and business writing, and print design."The Texas Tech Agricultural Education and Communications Department is one of the most outstanding programs in the nation." she said. "I am excited to join the faculty as we continue to strengthen the program through teaching, research, and service activities."
Agricultural Communications. Meyers, a native of Fulton, Kan., received her bachelor's degree in agricultural communications and journalism from Kansas State University, and her master's degree in agricultural and extension education from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Her doctorate in agricultural education and communication is from the University of Florida-Gainesville.
Awards for Meyers include best research article, Journal of Applied Communications (2006); outstanding graduate student research paper, Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists Agricultural Communications (2008); outstanding research poster award, Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists Agricultural Communications (2008); and graduate student teaching award, North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (2007).
She is a member of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, and Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences.
