CASNR homecoming breakfast festivities set for Oct. 11
Alumni of Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources will get a warm welcome Oct. 11 as the graduates, young and old, celebrate their annual Homecoming Breakfast festivities at the livestock arena behind the Animal and Food Sciences Building on the corner of Indiana and Main in Lubbock.
"One of the highlights of this year's program is the hanging of two new national championship banners "" the 2007 National Champion Livestock Judging Team and 2008 National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation Team," said Jane Piercy, CASNR's Director of Development and External Relations.
Scholarship Fund. The breakfast, which gets underway at 8 a.m., is free of charge, but there will be an opportunity to contribute donations to the Marvin J. Cepica Student Ag Council Scholarship and the General CASNR Scholarship Fund.
Following the breakfast there will be a number of separate homecoming activities, including:"Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics; open house; Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 319"Agricultural Education and Communications Alumni Association; annual meeting; Animal Science Building, first floor conference room; 10:00 a.m. to noon"Alumni and Student Meat Judging Contest; Gordon W. Homecoming Parade. Beginning at 10 a.m. there's the traditional Texas Tech Homecoming Parade, which starts at Lubbock's First Baptist Church and will end at the intersection of 18th & Indiana on the Tech campus.
At noon a tailgating luncheon is scheduled in the Animal and Food Sciences building and parking lot. The event, hosted by the Meat Science Program, is open to all animal and food sciences alumni and students. Awards for the alumni and student meat judging contest will be given at this time.
Explosive Offense. Later in the day the Red Raiders' explosive offense will face Nebraska for the university's annual homecoming game. This year Tech has augmented its potent Air Raid offense with a much-improved defense. Officials suggest confirming the game time at www.texastech.com.
Prior to Saturday's homecoming activities, two events will be held the day before. The Department of Landscape Architecture will have an alumni-student workshop for departmental alumni and current students at 9 a.m. on Oct. 10 in the pavilion.
Recognition Banquet. At 5:30 p.m. the Animal and Food Sciences Distinguished Alumni and Meat Science Recognition Banquet will be held at the United Spirit Arena's City Bank Room.
