Tech meat judging team takes first place in Omaha
Texas Tech University's outstanding meat judging team took first place honors Oct. 19 at the American Royal Meat Judging Contest in Omaha, Neb., their third top place finish of the season.
"The team won their third contest in a dominating fashion," said Mark Miller, the Department of Animal and Food Sciences' San Antonio Livestock Show Distinguished Chair in Meat Science. "I am proud of the excellence the team members and coaches are displaying at each contest."
80-Point Victory. The Red Raiders posted an 80-point victory over their nearest competitor, Colorado State University. Oklahoma State University, South Dakota State University and Texas A&M University were third through fifth teams, respectively.
Individually, the team members consistently finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the overall competition. Texas Tech also had the first, second and seventh high individuals in the alternate division.

Next Context. The win at the American Royal follows a victory at the Eastern National Meat Judging Contest in Pennsylvania earlier this month and a victory at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March. The team will compete in one more contest before the international competition in Dakota City, Neb., on Nov. 16.
