Montgomery awarded Distinguished Banking Service Award
The president of the Muleshoe State Bank, Robert Montgomery, was presented the 2008 Distinguished Banking Service Award on Nov. 14 at the 36th Annual Bankers Agricultural Credit Conference. The event was hosted by the Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.
Leadership. The service award, given each year by the Bankers Agricultural Credit Conference, recognizes and honors members of the banking industry that have made significant contributions to their community and the financial services profession as a whole, officials said.
Montgomery, who has served at the Muleshoe bank for more than three decades, is a second-generation West Texas banker. After graduating from Littlefield High School in 1965 and attending West Texas State University, he joined First National Bank of Amarillo.
Service. Eight years later, in 1977, he went to Muleshoe State Bank and has served there in a number of capacities, including working as its president and as a director on its board. In addition, he's been involved with the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce, serving two terms as its president. He's a past recipient of the chamber's 'Man of the Year' award, as well.
Montgomery was Muleshoe's mayor from 1992 to 2000, and now serves on the Due Diligence Committee of the Muleshoe Economic Development Corporation. He's a member of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas and the Independent Bankers Association, as well as a board member of the Central Notification System of Texas.
