Red Raiders shine at 59th Annual Texas Tech Rodeo
The Texas Tech University Men's and Women's Rodeo teams continued their exciting seasons at the 59th Annual TTU Rodeo held at the Tech Equestrian Center Oct. 23-25. The women's team placed second out of 16 schools, and the men finished sixth.
Kelsy Friskup of Muleshoe and Cody Altman of Canyon, won the championship in the team roping event after placing fifth in the first round with a 6.6 second run and first in the finals with a 5.8 second time, earning the pair the overall win.
Solid Performance. Erica Creswell, from Weatherford, OK, placed third overall in goat tying and second in the first go round of the breakaway calf roping competition, finishing seventh out of 105 competitors. Rounding out the women's outstanding performance, Brielle Parks of Breckenridge, placed seventh in the first go round and tenth overall out of 100 barrel racers.
The Tech men's team also turned in a solid performance throughout the weekend of competition, with Stetson Rasberry from Roby earning top honors in both the first go round and the finals to win the rodeo's overall bull riding championship.
Strong Showing. Fresh off his second place overall showing at the Vernon Rodeo Oct. 9-11, Jake Brown of Stephenville paired with Blaine Vick of Breckenridge to place in the first go round of team roping before finishing eighth overall out of 98 teams.
Jacob Nebeker, a senior agriculture and applied economics major from Battle Mountain, Nevada, earned third place honors in the finals, good enough for a steady fifth place overall finish in saddle bronc riding.
Top Honors. Jeremy Krywcun earned top honors in the first go round before finishing fifth overall in the steer wrestling event. Boone Gaines, a freshman animal and food sciences major from Marble Hill, Missouri, placed third in go round one, fifth in the finals, and fifth overall in the tie down calf roping event to secure the Tech men's sixth place finish for the weekend.
As of Oct. 30, the TTU men's rodeo team ranks third in the Southwest Region of the National Collegiate Rodeo Association and the women rank sixth. Even more impressive, Stetson Wayne Rasberry is the 15th ranked Bull Rider in the nation and Jake Brown is ranked 25th in the country in Team Roping Header.
