Carpio joins Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics

An experienced research economist, who specializes in agricultural economics and applied statistics at Clemson University, has been named an associate professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, according to officials within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Carlos Carpio officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on June 1.
The native from Ecuador indicated that he's particularly interested in continuing his research efforts on consumer demand and applied statistics issues. One of his goals is to build a college-wide research and teaching program in applied statistics with colleagues and students from other departments.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty, Carpio served as an assistant professor of applied economics and statistics, and assistant and associate professor of economics at Clemson University. He also worked as a research assistant in agricultural and resource economics at North Carolina State. Earlier he was a teaching assistant in economics at North Carolina State and research assistant in agricultural and applied economics at Texas Tech.
Carpio received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Zamorano University in Honduras, and his master's degree in agricultural and applied economics from Texas Tech. His doctorate in economics is from North Carolina State University.
He is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association, Southern Agricultural Economics Association and the Southern Economics Association. Awards for Carpio include the Third Place, Southern Economics Association Poster Competition (2013); Graduate School Ph.D. Dissertation Award from the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (2007); Outstanding Student Paper from the South East Region of the Decision Science Institute in Raleigh, NC (2005); and Outstanding Master Student of the Year from Texas Tech's Graduate Student Association of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics (2001).
