Devadoss joins Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics
Stephen Devadoss has been named the Emmabeth Thompson Professor of Risk Management with tenure within Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, according to officials within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on Aug. 1.
Devadoss indicated he is particularly interested in continuing his research efforts on crop insurance, risk analysis, international trade, industrial organization, and econometrics. One of his primary goals at Tech is to promote research, teaching, and advising mission of the department and the college.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty, Devadoss served as professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Idaho, and a visiting associate professor on sabbatical in the Department of Economics at the University of Colorado. He also worked as an associate professor in the College of Agriculture at Tuskegee University, and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Economics at Iowa State University.
Devadoss received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, India, and his master's degree in agricultural economics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, India. His doctorate in economics is from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa.
Recent honors for Devadoss include teaching scholar award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (2016); Outstanding Poster Award from the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University (2013); and an Interdisciplinary Research or Collaborative Efforts Excellence Award from the University of Idaho (2012); and an Outstanding Journal Article Award from the Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics (2010).
He has helped his students to receive more than 50 awards, including regional and national thesis and dissertation awards. He was named a Western Agricultural Economics Association's Fellow in 2010. He is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association, Western Agricultural Economics Association, Southern Agricultural Economics Association, International Agricultural Economics Association, and the American Economics Association.
