Laura Fischer joins Dept. of Agricultural Education and Communications

Laura Fischer, an expert in agricultural communications and strategic messaging, has been named an assistant professor with Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, according to officials within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. She officially stepped into her new teaching and research post on Jan. 4.
The Florida native indicated that her research program broadly focuses on developing messages to communicate and inform the public about issues in agriculture and natural resources.
Fischer uses a variety of research techniques to understand how the public perceives issues in agriculture and natural resources and to understand what type of messages are the most effective for audiences.
One of her primary goals at Tech is to continue to understand the intersection between strategic and agricultural communications to better inform the public about agriculture and natural resources. She hopes to share this knowledge with her students, the public, and the global community.
Prior to taking joining the Texas Tech faculty, Fischer served as an assistant professor within the University of Kentucky's Department of Integrated Strategic Communication. She also worked as a graduate research and teaching assistant in Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, and a research assistant and graduate research assistant in the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences' Center for Public Issues Education.
In addition, she served as the assistant communications coordinator for the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences' 4-H Youth Development Program.
Her bachelor's degree in animal science and her master's degree in agricultural education and communication are from the University of Florida. Her doctorate in agricultural communications and education is from Texas Tech. She is a member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the Association of Communication Excellence in Agriculture and Natural Resources.
