CASNR congressional summer interns on the ground in Washington, D.C.
By: Norman Martin
Three specially-selected students from Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are spending their summer working as interns in Washington, D.C. Running from May through August, the college's congressional intern program affords these students an opportunity to experience first-hand the government's day-to-day operations.
Among the benefits of a congressional internship are a real world working environment for students interested in public service, development of valuable job skills, and opportunities to meet professionals involved in government and related areas.
This year's CASNR Washington, D.C.-based summer interns include:
- Macey Gerhart, a senior animal science major from Winters, Texas (U.S. Representative August Pfluger, R-TX-11)
- Lacy Jackson, a senior agricultural communications major from Seminole, Texas (U.S. Representative Jodey Arrington, R-TX-19)
- Tatum Whitewood, an animal science graduate from Sanger, Texas (U.S. Representative Troy Nehls, (R-TX-22)
CASNR interns live in the 'Tech House' during their stay in Washington D.C., which is located just over a block away from the Capitol Building. Their living expenses are offset through scholarships from generous donors.
