Khondoker Mottaleb, an expert in international trade and marketing, has been named an assistant professor within Texas Tech Universitys Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics, according to officials within the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on Sept. 1.
“Classroom based teaching should be based on research findings” said Mottaleb. His research and teaching specialization is in trade, development, agriculture and food security, and his research program primarily focuses on market, efficiency and profitability of the farming system under risk and uncertainty.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty, Mottaleb served as a research scientist within the University of Arkansas Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness, and an agricultural economist at the International Maize & Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) in Texcoco, Mexico.
Earlier he worked as an agricultural economist-postdoctoral research fellow at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines, and a postdoctoral research fellow at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Japan. In addition, Mottaleb served as an assistant professor of economics at the ASA University Bangladesh and Bangladesh Civil Service College, and a research officer and senior research officer at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre.
He received his bachelors and masters degrees in economics are from Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. In addition, Mottaleb received a masters degree and doctorate in international development studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan.
Honors include serving as associate editor of the Journal of Agribusiness in Developing & Emerging Economies, and an editorial board member for the Land Use Policy Journal. He is a member of the International Association of Agricultural Economists, Agricultural & Applied Economics Association, and the Southern Agricultural Economics Association.
Techs Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics currently has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, along with 475 undergraduate students, and 66 graduate students. The department offers bachelors degrees in agribusiness and agricultural and applied economics, as well as a concentration in international agribusiness with programs in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. It also offers masters and doctorate degrees in agricultural and applied economics, and a masters of agribusiness.
