To get the spring semester off to a tasty start, members of Davis Colleges Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center held their annual 'Winter Welcome & Queso Cook-off' on Wednesday (Jan. 29) at the Animal & Food Sciences Livestock Arena.
Once again, the 'Queso Cook-off' was the evenings highlight event, said Davis College's Administrator for Scholarships Madi Nall. This years winner was American Fisheries Society which won the 'Golden Cheese Grater' as the overall winner. The Wildlife Society took home the 'Silver Cheese Grater' for best presentation.
For audience members, Nall added that all the creamy, cheesy and sometimes spicy dips in the contest were available to the public after the contest.
Following the cook-off was the "Mr. Davis College Contest," hosted by the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources' Ag Council. Contestants competed in western wear, interview and talent.
This year's Mr. Davis College winner was Gage Owen, a junior majoring in animal science from Senora, Texas. He represented Agritechsans. In addition, Cooper Mau, a freshman agricultural and applied economics major from Fayetteville, Texas, won People's Choice representing Wool Judging Team.
During the program, student organizations within Davis College were represented, providing an opportunity to speak with students, university guests and representatives.
