Five outstanding faculty members from Texas Techs Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources have been honored with Presidents Engaged Scholarship Awards, recognition bestowed on individuals who exemplify the universitys commitment to community engagement through scholarship and reflect a campus-wide effort to positively impact the communities around us.
"The Presidents Engaged Scholarship Awards demonstrate our facultys dedication to bridging the gap between academia and community,” said Davis College Associate Dean for Outreach & Engagement Erica Irlbeck. “The faculty honored conduct impactful, real-world research, and they engage the community in their classrooms. This recognition is a testament to their hard work, passion, and commitment to creating positive change.”
Among this years faculty award winners from Davis College are:
Presidents Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award: Conrad Lyford |Professor and Syed Badruddoza | Assistant Professor | Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics. The title of the project is, “Promoting Healthy Eating in Families with Young Children.” The award recognizes a commitment to engagement with community partners and the positive impact that the winners work is having on communities and the university, and carries a $2,000 prize. According to the Office of Outreach & Engagement, the award recognizes Texas Tech faculty or faculty-staff teams for an exemplary project or activity that addresses an important community need and/or creates solutions to larger societal issues based on mutually beneficial partnerships with communities. Along with Badruddoza, the research team includes Stephanie Shine (Dept. of Human Development & Family Sciences); Oak-Hee Park (Dept. of Interdisciplinary Sciences); and Zijian Harrison Gong (Dept. of Advertising & Brand Strategy).
Presidents Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award. Heidi Brady |Professor of Equine Behavior, Reproductive Physiology & Therapeutic Riding | Department of Animal & Food Sciences. The title of the project is, “The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding and Therapy Center.” The President's Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award recognizes Texas Tech faculty or faculty-staff teams for an exemplary project or activity that addresses an important community need and/or creates solutions to larger societal issues based on mutually beneficial partnerships with communities The award carries a monetary prize of $2,000.
Presidents Emerging Engaged Scholarship Award:Joey Young | Associate Professor of Turfgrass Science | Department of Plant & Soil Science and Rudy Ritz, Associate Professor | Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. The title of the project is, “Professional Development for Agricultural and STEM Educators Centered Around Turfgrass Science.” The President's Emerging Engaged Scholarship Award recognizes a TTU faculty member or a faculty-staff team for a relatively new project or activity that demonstrates high potential for the advancement of engaged scholarship. The award carries a monetary prize of $1,500.
The faculty members were honored for their achievements and contributions to the university as part of the university's annual Faculty Honors Convocation on Wednesday (Apr. 23) at the Student Union Building. The awards are given by the Office of the President and recognize outstanding faculty and departments for excellence in teaching, research, service and more.
In addition, this years award recipients and their projects were honored during a special awards luncheon on Tuesday (Apr.15) in the Museum of Texas Techs Sculpture Court as part of Texas Techs Discoveries to Impact Month.
