More than 85 undergraduates from Texas Techs Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources crossed the stage last Saturday, receiving diplomas during the universitys summer commencement ceremonies at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The graduates represented a wide span of disciplines from agribusiness and animal science to conservation law enforcement and natural resources management reflecting the breadth of the colleges programs.
Among them was Sofia Gill, an animal science major from Garland, Texas, who carried the banner for Davis College during the ceremony. Banner bearers, chosen by administrators for their academic achievement and leadership, led the processional for each college. Gill was also recognized as the colleges highest-ranking summer graduate.
The graduating class included six students in agribusiness, 13 in agricultural and applied economics, five in agricultural communications, 38 in animal science, three in conservation law enforcement, one in agricultural education, 16 in natural resources management and two in plant and soil science.
According to university officials, this was Texas Techs second largest summer graduating class with a total of 2,036 graduates. The class was representative of 46 U.S. states and 40 countries. The oldest graduate was 72 and the youngest graduates were 19.
