More than 60 graduate students from Texas Tech’s Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources will gather on Thursday, Oct. 9, for the college’s annual Graduate Student Research Poster Competition, an event designed to showcase student research across agriculture, natural resources and related fields.

The competition, scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. at the university’s International Cultural Center, will feature presentations on a broad range of topics, underscoring the college’s emphasis on cross-disciplinary research.

The breadth of research presented at the poster competition is a testament to the integrated, trans-disciplinary scope of research in Davis College, said Darren Hudson, the college’s associate dean for strategic initiatives and assessment. The students are heavily contributing to solving important problems in agriculture, resources and landscapes.

For many participants, the event offers more than just an academic exercise. Students gain experience distilling complex research into accessible presentations for the public, while also learning to network across fields and disciplines.

“We believe this adds tremendous value to their experience as students as well as showcases some of the cutting-edge research in Davis College,” Hudson said.

Sandra Addo, program manager for career pathways at the college, said the competition highlights not only the quality of student research but also the ability to communicate it effectively to a non-specialist audience. Judges will include experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Texas Tech faculty, postdoctoral researchers and advanced graduate students.

Scholarships will be awarded to the top three posters in four categories. A full list of Davis College graduate students scheduled to present has been released by the college. They include:
