Davis College has a long history of informing our communities, alumni, and students about all the exciting activities happening on and off campus. From ground-breaking research to competitive teams to in-depth profiles of faculty, staff, and students, Norman Martin has been the man behind the camera and stories for nineteen years.
"Norman brings Davis College to life by helping to share the outstanding accomplishments of our students, staff, and faculty."
Hailing from Matador, TX, Martin has made a career of being the lead writer and photographer for Davis College, adding images and context to the many stories that make up the Davis College experience. You often do not notice Martin moving around the room taking pictures that bring life to our events for the public. But his contribution does not stop there; he has informed audiences through his high-quality, informative stories that highlight our outstanding contributions in academics, research, and outreach.
“Norman brings Davis College to life by helping to share the outstanding accomplishments of our students, staff, and faculty,” said Clint Krehbiel, Ph.D., Dean of Davis College. “He adds tremendous value through his story-telling that exemplifies excellence in our college.”
Martin brings a wealth of experience to his job. He started working as an information specialist for Texas A&M University after completing his BA in Journalism and MA in Mass Communications at Texas Tech. Prior to joining Davis College, Norman was also the Managing Editor for Automotive Industries magazine and the Science Editor for New Mexico State University Communications. After coming to Davis College in 2006, Norman has been the lead writer and currently forms the core news writing for the Davis College Marketing and Communications Team. Part of his duties are to manage the seasonal stories about the college including new faculty profiles, awards, and student events. But his creativity shines by bringing feature stories about major research, competitive teams, and student activities.
Serving the entire Davis College is no small feat. With seven departments, eight centers and institutes, numerous student activities, outreach events, a large faculty, and nearly 3,300 students, the possibilities for stories are endless, as are the demands for his time. Martin takes on that challenge with a happy heart, a love for Davis College, and a very organized schedule.
The faces behind the camera and stories often go unnoticed, but their value is tremendous. We are proud to have Martin help tell our stories, provide the public with valuable insight into the Davis College family, and celebrate our success in the past, present, and future.
