Red Dog Shelters Donates Tornado Shelter to OTC Site

Situated a mere 15-minute drive from the main Texas Tech campus, the Oilfield Technology Center (OTC) stands as an exceptional educational facility meticulously tailored to fulfill research and instructional requisites. This center offers both undergraduate and graduate students in petroleum engineering a practical encounter with the intricacies of designing and operating standard oilfield apparatus.

While its primary focus is aligned with the petroleum engineering curriculum, the OTC possesses the versatility to accommodate third-party workforce development training. Furthermore, the center's resources are available for the testing of novel downhole tools and production treatment processes.

Notably, a recent addition to the OTC's offerings is an esteemed mobile shelter generously donated by the Red Dog Shelters of Lubbock, Texas. These accolade-winning shelters can be swiftly installed within 10 minutes. Esteemed corporations such as BP, Shell, and Chevron repose trust in these shelters to safeguard their employees at various work sites. Each unit surpasses the most prominent safety standards recognized in the United States for EF-5 tornadoes, ensuring comprehensive protection. Featuring a capacious capacity of 32 individuals, each Red Dog shelter is equipped with dual air conditioners, heaters, benches, a desk, and a Rapid Cool Down station. Power options encompass on-site sources or a 5kW generator (provided and serviced by the operator). Notably, these units are the fruit of meticulous design by eminent structural engineers and have undergone rigorous impact testing at the Texas Tech Wind Science and Engineering Research Center, achieving a FEMA Safe Room rating that surpasses the highest threshold.

We express our gratitude to the Red Dog Shelters of Lubbock for their incredibly generous donation, which will ensure the safety of our students and workers.
