
Dr. Liang comes to the IMSE department with a PhD in Industrial Engineering
An Alum from Purdue University, Dr. Liang comes to the IMSE department with a PhD in Industrial Engineering, a MS in Industrial Engineering and a BEng in Transportation Science and Engineering. Dr. Liang has a focus of research in Cognitive Engineering and human factors, situation awareness and hazard perception, behavioral and physiological measures, human-automation interaction, transportation engineering and operator behavior modeling, and accessible mobility and gerontology.
His accolades have ranged from excelling as a first-year graduate student in 2019 to his first-place presentation from Purdue Industrial Engineering Research Symposium on Accessibility needs in Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAV) for Older Adult Riders: A Focus Group Study.
This Urumqi, Xinjiang, China native has published 11 times and has three publications in edit. His most recent research experience was through Westat, where he served as a Transportation Search Intern from June 2023 – August 2023.
When Dr. Liang is not focusing on the automation-to-human transition of control, per his dissertation in 2024, he enjoys spending his time playing tennis, hiking, and barbequing. A unique hobby that Dr. Liang has is that he is on his way to becoming a private pilot.
