Program Summary

The Master of Engineering degree program is an interdisciplinary, non-thesis program designed primarily for practicing engineers that is offered on the campus of Texas Tech University and 100% online through distance learning. The program allows students to tailor their coursework to career preferences and interests from several of the engineering departments. For practicing engineers, credit for graduate coursework completed in residence at another accredited graduate school may be accepted for as much as 6 hours of the 30 semester hour requirements for the Master of Engineering degree. All work credited toward the degree must be completed within six calendar years.

Application Requirements

In addition to the regulations governing admission to the Texas Tech University Graduate School, a baccalaureate degree in engineering, or its equivalent, is preferred for entrance to the Master of Engineering program. Any student who does not have an undergraduate degree in engineering is considered a special situation. To provide the student with a solid program and to ensure that the student has the necessary background knowledge to successfully complete the program, the following courses are required:

  • Principles of Chemistry I (TTU CHEM 1307)
  • Principles of Physics I (Calculus-based) (TTU PHYS 1408)
  • Calculus with Applications I, II, & III (TTU MATH 1451, 1452, & 2450)
  • Differential Equations (TTU MATH 3354)

Note: : Not all courses are required to be completed, but a strong foundation in most of the disciplines listed is recommended. TTU Course Numbers are provided for your reference. These courses may also be taken at TTU or at a local university or community college. Transcripts must be included with your graduate application.
