Under Kayla's leadership, Texas Tech was awarded the status of an Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) University by the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities. This distinction was only given to 12 universities in the United States. She has worked closely with TTU Administration and faculty members to structure major new internal interdisciplinary research centers and trusts. In addition, Kayla worked to achieve designations and major research awards essential to Texas Tech's progression toward National Research University status.
