As a Director for Operations, Carey had the idea to begin a document destruction service for the campus. He successfully got this service approved and offered to the campus community at a heavily discounted rate. Not only has he done a massive amount of research to get this program started, but he maximized its results by baling the shredded paper for recycling. This initiative also spurred a joint effort between the Operations Division, The Office of Information Technology and CIO and the Contract and Procurement Department to address the need for a secure hard drive destruction from campus computers, servers and copiers. To date there have been over 1,500 hard drives shredded with the metals going to be recycled. Carey's significant efforts have made a difference not only by growing and expanding the department and its campus services but have improved the university as a whole.
