Jared Martin
Unit Manager
Environmental Health and Safety

Jared has worked tirelessly to develop research safety programs for the University and continues to lead his team in developing an integrated safety manual and operating policies for the University. He works with a “student-first” attitude by always having the safety of our students at the forefront of his mind. A prime example of this is his emphasis on the importance of in-person safety training for teaching assistants and graduate students. Not only does the in-person training provide an opportunity for outreach to the departments but also provides teaching assistants with skills to provide safety guidance to their own students. A culture of “Safety First” has permeated the campus in the past few years. That change in culture would not have been possible without the contributions from Jared. He not only has a history of improving safety programs but has many future plans for continued development of his section's responsibilities and the resources it provides to the University. By placing safety first, Jared has developed programs, policies and procedures that ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff of the university and make Texas Tech University a model workplace. With the establishment of centralized hazardous materials procurement and distribution, as well as, a risk-based hazardous material storage and inventory system for all divisions within the University, he has placed Texas Tech University as a safety leader among Tier 1 research universities.
