Adulting for Dummies

Gencie Houy, M.Ed. wrote Adulting For Dummies to share important life skills for the next generation of professionals

Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) faculty member, Gencie Houy, M.Ed., recently published her book titled Adulting For Dummies. The book aims to help individuals learn and practice essential life skills needed for success. From basic life and household tasks, to managing finances and health, individuals will learn how to achieve their goals in each area of life.

“In this book, you'll find out exactly what skills you need to be a thriving adult,” Houy said. “You'll discover how to keep up in an ever-changing world, how to maintain positive relationships, how to communicate what you really want, how to manage your paycheck, and how to take care of your physical and emotional needs as an adult.”

Her book offers guidance on budgeting, strategies for keeping a home in order, and advice on navigating the modern dating scene and communicating with family members, friends, and romantic partners. Houy wrote this book within eight months and she said it was a fun process.

“My whole life and career have been dedicated to Family and Consumer Sciences Education,” Houy said. “Writing this book is another way that I am able to share the important content of FCSE and help individuals feel more confident in their own skin.”

Adulting For Dummies is for anyone wanting to hone in on their life skills. Houy's book is on sale now and can be purchased here.
