Pursuing public school virtually can pose certain challenges when it comes to state-mandated testing. Some local districts allow homeschooled students to test at their campuses while others don't. To make the process easier for TTU K-12 students, some staff and administrators loaded up and delivered their testing in person.

More than 30 staff members traveled across Texas, mostly by car, to administer the 2023 STAAR and End of Course exams between April 24 and May 5

Coryann Miller, testing coordinator for TTU K-12, said the staff visited 12 locations.

“In addition to the Texas Tech University sites at Jefferson, Junction and the Lubbock campus, the group made testing stops in Abilene, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth (Grapevine), Midland, San Antonio, Houston (The Woodlands), Waco and Wichita Falls,” Miller said.

In all, 234 students took 508 tests. The various staff teams administered STAAR tests to 141 third through eighth graders, including grade-level math, reading and language arts, science and social studies.

End of Course testers comprised 93 students completing exams in algebra, English1, English2, biology and U.S.  history.

“Our students aren't always able to do testing in their local schools,” said Cari Moye, principal of TTU K-12. “This year we knew it would be easier and less stressful on them and their families for us to come to them. We are committed to our students' success, and it was great meeting some of them in person.”
