Compound sentences connect two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction. There are only seven coordinating conjunctions in the English language: and, or, nor, for, yet, but, and so.

Another way to produce a compound sentence is with two independent clauses and an independent marker. These are a few independent markers: also, consequently, furthermore, however, moreover, nevertheless, and therefore.
