Unit One: Learning Activities

  Reading Assignment

  Be sure you have read the Introduction and Objectives for this unit. They will help provide a context and direction for the unit.

  • Read Chapters 11 and 12.
  • Take Notes. Be sure you take both the required notes listed below and then choose your own notes to take. Use the printable checklist if it helps you.
    • Required Notes (worth 50%):
      • Chapter 11
        • Lesson 1: outline detailing the origins of World War II
        • Lesson 2: graphic organizer about the events that shifted American Involvement in WWII
        • Lesson 3: graphic organizer showing examples of persecution during the Holocaust
      • Chapter 12
        • Lesson 4: outline of Lesson 4, including collapse of the Third Reich

  • • Student-Chosen Notes (worth 40%):
      Please take other notes you think are important. Below are a few suggestions to help you earn this part of your notebook grade. Feel free to also take other notes on what you find interesting or helpful.
      • Chapter 12
        • Lesson 1: graphic organizer listing changes for women and minorities
        • Lesson 2: graphic organizer showing major Pacific Battles
        • Lesson 3: major European and North African Battles

   

  Remember that you can find all of these notes (required and suggested) under the "reading strategies" links for each chapter lesson in the online textbook. (If you have the printed text, you'll find them in the margins under "Taking Notes.") Be sure to watch all of the videos and read all of the instructions in the introduction to this course, as they will help you locate the "reading strategies" links and understand how to complete your notebook. You'll find this information in the Syllabus section.

  • Complete the Comprehension Check practice quiz below to make sure you understand these resources.
