About the AP Exam

Each AP course has an optional exam offered every May by the College Board. Taking the exam is not required, but it can be a valuable opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement—depending on your exam score and the policies of the colleges you apply to.

We encourage students to check the AP credit policies at the colleges they’re interested in.

For Full-Time Texas Tech K‑12 Students: Taking the AP Exam

Since Texas Tech K‑12 does not offer in-person testing, full-time students must arrange to test at a local school.

Contact a local school no later than October 31, 2025, to ensure you meet their registration deadlines. Schools must place AP exam orders with the College Board in early November.

Here's how:

  1. Find a nearby AP testing school
  2. Contact the AP Coordinator at that school and ask if they allow outside testers.
  3. Follow the school’s registration process, deadlines, and pay any required fees.
  4. You may be enrolled in their “exam only” course section.
  5. Stay enrolled in both:
    • Your Texas Tech K‑12 course section
    • The local school’s exam-only section

When registering, use the following school information:

School Name: Texas Tech University High School
School Code: 444357

Texas Tech K-12: TSI Testing Now Available for Grades 9-12

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-legislated program designed to improve student success at the college level. The TSI Assessment test helps determine if a student admitted to college is prepared to take college-level coursework in Reading, Writing and mathematics. Incoming college students in Texas are required to take the TSI Assessment unless they are exempt and will either be placed in college-level courses or placed in a developmental course depending on their assessment test scores.
