Matt Gregory, Ph.D.

Matt Gregory, Ph.D., is the dean of students and vice provost for Student Life. Gregory has more than 30 years of experience in and around higher education.

In this role, he supports the university’s student-facing offices, including, but not limited to, student government services, the Office of Student Conduct, Army and Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps detachments and the Office of the Dean of Students. Additionally, he works closely with an assistant vice provost for campus life and an assistant vice provost for student wellbeing to lead additional areas across Student Life.

Gregory earned a doctoral degree in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University in 2009, a master’s degree in education, counseling and student affairs from Western Kentucky University in 1997 and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Southern Illinois University in 1995. 

Before joining Texas Tech, he was the associate dean of students at Louisiana State University, where he oversaw student conduct, students of concern and served as a deputy Title IX administrator. Gregory has worked in a variety of areas in higher education, including housing and residence life, fraternity and sorority life, student conduct, campus law enforcement, Title IX and students of concern.

Gregory has taught courses in both graduate and undergraduate degree programs and currently teaches in the higher education administration program in educational psychology, leadership, & counseling. He is also a certified Rape Aggression Defense instructor at Texas Tech.

Outside of his role as the dean of students & vice provost for student life, Gregory serves as a director on the national governing board of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, offers consulting services to support higher education institutions and is a past president of the Association for Student Conduct Administration.
