Stay Healthy: Tips to Prevent Seasonal Illnesses

To help stop the spread of seasonal illnesses, it is recommended that you not attend class, work, or social functions if experiencing symptoms.

  • There are several things you can do to take care of yourself:Get enough rest
  • Stay hydrated
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Keep active
  • Wash or disinfect your hands regularly

Sometimes, though, you may still get sick.  If you are not feeling well and have symptoms of COVID-19, or other viruses or infections, you should stay at your place of residence and wear a mask when around others.

If you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested. COVID-19 tests are administered through health clinics and by health professionals but can also be purchased over the counter for use at home. Tests are also available for purchase from either local pharmacies or at the Student Health Services Pharmacy.

If you are experiencing symptoms and isolating yourself from work, school and social activity, please notify your instructors that you are ill. Together, you can make a plan for your class absences.

Guidance for returning to work, class and other social activity is available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and includes being fever free (without use of fever reducing medication) and your symptoms improving for 24 hours.

If you experience worsening symptoms, including but not limited to shortness of breath, chest pain, chronic confusion, difficulty awakening from sleep or bluish discoloration of the lips or fingertips, seek attention in a hospital emergency department immediately or call 911.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep all Red Raiders healthy this fall.
