Gabriela Castillo Estrada

Background

Gabriela Castillo joined IGCAST in February 2022 as Lab Manager for the Herrera-Estrella and Lopez-Arredondo Labs. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UMSNH in Mexico and began her professional career in the private sector in 2014, gaining experience in Quality Assurance and Process Control across the cosmetics, automotive, and biotechnology industries.

She earned an M.S. in Biotechnology from Texas Tech University in 2025, where her research focused on quantifying root-exuded malic acid in genetically modified Arabidopsis plants under phosphate starvation using HPLC-MS.

Currently, she focuses on long-read sequencing and single-cell sequencing library preparation.

Outside the lab, she enjoys dancing, swimming, and spending time with her family.
