Scholarships

careers in plant and soil science

Students in the Department of Plant and Soil Science have access to a range of scholarships on the bases of scholastic achievement, leadership, need, and area of specialization.

In addition to the many scholarships offered through the Davis College and PSS department, we maintain a running list of scholarships from external sources for which our students might be qualified. These external scholarships are not associated with the departmental scholarship application processes.

Departmental Scholarship Procedures

For Undergraduate Students:

Plant and Soil Science scholarships are available for all students within the department. The deadline for entering freshmen is February 1st of each year, while the deadline for transfer students is March 1st.

Entering freshmen or transfer students may apply online at ApplyTexas or by contacting the Financial Aid Office at (806) 742-3681. A university-wide application must be completed and will be distributed to the department, enabling you to apply for scholarships at all three levels (university, college and department) with only one application.

Application Deadlines:

  • Entering freshmen:  February 1st
  • Transfer students:  March 1st

How To Apply

The scholarship application for entering students is embedded within the admissions application. After completion of the application, students have applied for admissions as well as scholarships.

Entering students can apply using ApplyTexas (where the Texas Common Application for Admission is located) or CommonApp.

Currently enrolled students can apply at TTU Scholarships. Under "Apply for Scholarships", go to "Continuing Undergraduate Students."

FASFA

Be sure to complete the FASFA online if you want to be considered for need-based scholarships. Students do not have to fill out the FASFA to get a scholarship, but they are encouraged to in order to maximize their scholarship opportunities. Most merit-based and major-specific scholarships don't require it, but if a student also wishes to compete for need-based scholarships, the FAFSA is required.

For Graduate Students:

Plant and Soil Science scholarships are available for all graduate students within the department. The deadline to apply is February 1st of each year. Newly admitted graduate students may apply after this deadline, just contact Diann Merriman for more information.
