Things to see & do

The TTU Horticulture Garden is a varied and always-changing place. Check out some of the things to do and features to see while you're here:

Plant Trial Beds

Plant Trial Beds

The Ornamental Horticulture Research Group's Plant Trial Beds serve as a testing ground for how different species and varieties of ornamental plants perform in West Texas. (It's also a riot of color, texture, and photographic potential.)

Shaded Picnic Areas

Shaded Picnic Areas

Benches, gazebos, stumps, and tables are sprinkled throughout, making the garden an ideal place to hide from the real world for a bit.

Wildflower Meadow

Wildflower Meadow

Located in the northwest corner of the garden, the wildflower meadow plays host to a range of prairie species and catches a mean sunset.

Insect Hotels

Insect Hotels

Say hello to our little friends. (No really, without these critters, we'd be toast. Please be kind to our many-legged pals.)

Vegetable Patch

Vegetable Patch

Come check out some of the range of vegetables and herbs that can be grown in our region, as well as a variety of ideas for planting methods.

Native Pollinator Garden

Native Pollinator Garden

Under the care of Dr. Scott Longing - our department's entomologist - this section by the north entrance to the garden is a test case for resilient, native, pollinator-friendly planting.

Holiday Lights

Holiday Lights

With every new archway, gazebo, and long-suffering student worker, the holiday light display gets a little wilder every year.
