Maaz Amjad, Ph.D.

Maaz Amjad is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Computer Science at Texas Tech University. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and previously served as a Provost Early Career Fellow and Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin. He also serves as an Academic Editor on the editorial board of the PLOS ONE journal. Dr. Amjad is passionate about making education more inclusive and accessible, particularly for underrepresented communities in computing. In 2025, he received the Open Educational Resources Adoption Incentive Grant to promote no-cost course materials for TTU students. His professional experience spans three continents and includes roles in both academia and the tech industry. With over a decade of experience in AI, machine learning, and natural language processing, his work focuses on creating digital solutions to address complex societal issues such as misinformation, hate speech, and public health surveillance. At TTU, Dr. Amjad teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in AI, machine learning, software development, and engineering design. He actively promotes an entrepreneurial mindset among students, mentors them in career development, and aims to help shape the next generation of computer science leaders in AI and the tech industry.
